According to new data from Brightcove, Inc., enterprise business use of videos increased 91% during the Covid-19 pandemic. This unprecedented increase in video usage came as many enterprise businesses scrambled to relocate their employees to work-at-home environments, allowing employees to stay engaged and in communication with coworkers and clients.

Although the move toward video conferencing has been coming for years, many businesses were forced into overdrive by the global pandemic, scrambling to find solutions to keep their businesses running as public spaces and office buildings closed down for safety reasons. The ability to pivot from in-person to remote communication became a make-or-break decision for many businesses; video conferencing became an essential part of making that happen.

Key Takeaways to Brightcove’s Video Index as Related To Enterprise Businesses:

  • Enterprise users spent 90% more time viewing videos in the beginning of 2020, with 23% more views compared to the same period last year.
  • Video usage in the last two weeks of March – when a national emergency was declared due to the coronavirus – accounted for nearly 30 percent of all views for the quarter.
  • More than half the time spent watching video within enterprise businesses happened between March 16 and 31.

“The pandemic has been video’s evolutionary event,” said Jim O’Neill, principal analyst and author of Brightcove’s Global Video Index. “Whether it’s holding a company meeting or hosting an industry conference, enterprises will continue growing their need for secure, reliable video technologies to stay connected both internally and with the market and customers. As we move through Q2, we can expect to see more use of video, as well as more unique and innovative use cases as organizations across the globe continue to stay connected with their employees and customers.”
