Last year, Google released a less expensive version of their then newest phone: the Google Pixel 3a. At just $400, the 3a was lauded as one of the most affordable smartphones on the market. It featured a single lens camera instead of the much more advanced, multi-lens options of the standard Pixel 3, and traded out a couple more relatively minor features for the cheaper price tag.

Rumor has it that Google is planning to release a similar iteration to the Pixel 4, its newest release. Although at this point they’re only rumors, Google executive Mario Queiroz has mentioned that the company is planning to provide a less expensive alternative for consumers, without sacrificing many of the features users are looking for.

“We think there are a lot of people who would like to get those experiences but they can’t now because those phones cost $1,400,” said Queiroz in an interview last year.

If the launch of the 3a is any indication, the Pixel 4a will likely be released in May. The biggest differences between the flagship Pixel 4 and the 4a are a less powerful camera with a single lens, and a fingerprint sensor instead of facial recognition software as its security measure. It’s also rumored to be one of the few new smartphones that will still have a headphone jack instead of requiring a Bluetooth connection.

One of the biggest differences will likely be the material used for the body of the phone: while the Pixel 4 is made of glass, the 4a will likely be made of polycarbonate.
